Spotlight on Advanced Engineering & Manufacturing: Driving Growth in Gloucestershire

23 September 2025

Gloucestershire’s Advanced Engineering and Manufacturing (AEM) sector is a vital engine of growth for the county and inward investment is helping to accelerate its momentum.

With a rich heritage of innovation and a thriving ecosystem of high-tech businesses, Gloucestershire is home to world-class capabilities in aerospace, precision engineering, and sustainable manufacturing. The sector employs over 35,000 people locally and benefits from a strong talent pipeline, making it a prime location for ambitious businesses to scale.

A standout example is Moog Aircraft Control Components, a US-headquartered manufacturer that has been part of the Gloucestershire business community for over 50 years. When Moog needed to expand, they explored options across the UK but thanks to targeted support from Invest in Gloucestershire, they chose to stay and grow in Tewkesbury.

The result is a £40 million investment in a carbon-neutral, state-of-the-art facility, three times the size of their previous premises. This Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) success story not only secures Moog’s future in the region but also reinforces Gloucestershire’s position as a strategic hub for advanced manufacturing.

Mark Lawton, Moog’s General Manager, said:

“Having the ability to go to a team like Invest in Gloucestershire is extremely important, and the support we have received has been valuable to facilitate Moog’s growth. With a strong aerospace skill set in the county, staying in Gloucestershire was key to ensure we retained and attracted great talent to help secure future growth in the UK.”

Moog’s expansion is more than a business win, it’s a testament to the county’s ability to support global firms with local roots. Their continued involvement in Gloucestershire’s Local Growth Plan and national Industrial Strategy highlights the strategic value of inward investment in shaping the region’s future.

As the AEM sector evolves, with innovations in hydrogen aviation, advanced materials, and digital manufacturing Gloucestershire remains committed to attracting and supporting high-value investment.

When businesses invest in Gloucestershire, they invest in a future of innovation, sustainability, and shared success.
