Hartpury University's International Partnership with Australia

3 December 2020

Hartpury University is today proud to announce the launch of an international partnership with Charles Sturt University – the largest regional university in Australia – aimed at driving forward research and raising standards in education.

The institutions have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for Academic Cooperation outlining an extensive range of opportunities for engagement, including the development of collaborative research and innovation projects; the establishment of teaching staff and student exchange programmes; and shared contributions to the delivery of taught postgraduate programs in both universities.

Under the new partnership, Hartpury University and Charles Sturt University will also organise joint academic and scientific activities, such as courses and conferences; devise staff development programmes; work towards joint submissions to Research Excellence Framework reviews, including the potential for co-authored research outputs from staff in both universities.

Hartpury University, home to more than 2,000 students, offers undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Sport, Equine, Animal, Agriculture and Veterinary Nursing, as well as postgraduate research and PhD qualifications.

Russell Marchant, Vice-Chancellor of Hartpury University, said: “We’re extremely proud to announce our new partnership with Charles Sturt University, ranked number one university for graduate employment in Australia.

“We’re both passionate about driving forward impactful research across our shared areas of expertise, and providing our students and research staff with opportunities to make a positive difference to the world.

“We also look forward to drawing on the expertise of staff and the world-class facilities and resources at both institutions to act as specialist hubs for wider community relationships and provide co-ordinated services to business.”

Charles Sturt University is Australia’s largest regional university, with six main campuses in New South Wales – Bathurst, Wagga Wagga, Orange, Albury-Wodonga, Dubbo and Port Macquarie.

Established in 1989, it was named in honour of Captain Charles Sturt, a British explorer who made expeditions into regional New South Wales and South Australia, and who lived in Cheltenham upon his return to Britain.

Professor Heather Cavanagh, Charles Sturt University Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Engagement), said: “This is an exciting opportunity to link with a like-minded university. We look forward to developing close links and some exciting projects with Hartpury University.”
