ZeroAvia is on a mission to put a hydrogen-electric engine in every commercial aircraft, powering a golden age of clean flight. With such an ambitious proposition, they were looking for an expansive site that would be able to grow with them, allowing them to test and develop engines for larger aircrafts as time went on.
Initially, ZeroAvia were looking at several sites in the UK, but needed to make sure the premises would be right for the long term. We were introduced to the company via the Department for Business and Trade and hosted a visit at Cotswold Airport in Kemble, and they quickly selected it as their UK base.
We then helped signpost them to numerous contacts locally, while also securing them a grant to construct the ideal office space within their hanger at the airport.
ZeroAvia found our support very helpful when it came to skills and talent. We linked them up with the Gloucestershire Careers Hub, who were able to put them in touch with local universities, technical colleges and schools to develop their talent pipeline.
Through the success of ZeroAvia’s R&D programmes, particularly in the UK, they have been able to secure over $250 million in private investment, with the majority of spend deployed in the UK. This has led to ZeroAvia being able to add around 200 jobs to the Gloucestershire economy over the last four years.
“From helping us find the ideal location and connecting us with local talent, to championing our contribution to Gloucestershire in conversations with central government, the Invest in Gloucestershire team have been invaluable at every step of the way.
“There’s a lot of appetite in Gloucestershire to make a contribution to tackling climate change and for supporting the next phase of aerospace innovation, both from Cotswold Airport and the Invest in Gloucestershire team. That energy and enthusiasm was really appealing when we were choosing where to put down roots.”
